Glassware and Accessories You Need to Complete Your Home Bar

Writer's picture: Couple Of SipsCouple Of Sips

When we first started making more cocktails at home, we were constantly struggling with what glass to put our cocktails in to still give us that fancy restaurant vibe, while being in our pajamas. Is only wine allowed in a wine glass? What about a modern beer glass? Can that only hold an overpriced IPA served on draft? We say F the rules and put wine in a beer glass if that tickles your fancy. Forgetting about the rules allowed us to make sophisticated cocktails, while only having minimal glassware in our home bar.

We've put together a list of our favorite glassware and accessories, which can all be purchased at Crate and Barrel. The quality cannot be beaten and there's even an outlet in Kittery, ME, which makes the price tag hurt less. If there's not an outlet near you, we promise the splurge is worth it. I am embarrassed to tell you how many times I have dropped my delicate glass martini glass and it's still standing! We recommend grabbing four of each of these glasses to allow for friends to enjoy too, or for you to freeze some glasses while drinking out of the rest. Let us know what you think. Cheers! - COS

  1. Mera Wine Glass - $9.95 each. These wine glasses cannot be beaten. They are thin enough to give you a modern look without the delicacy of a $30 wine glass that your mother-in-law serves at Thanksgiving. We love to use these for your traditional red or white, but also love filling these babies with cocktails that are soda water-based (more liquid) and wine spritzers.

2. 16 oz Beer Can Glass - $3.95 each. We guarantee that you have been served a beer or a sour in one of these glasses when you were out at a trendy brewery over the summer. This glass might be the best glass on our list when it comes to opportunities. You can use this glass for coffee in the morning, a cocktail in the afternoon, and then a nightcap IPA. You just cannot go wrong with this one.

3. Hatch Shot Glass - $2.95 each. When we were shopping for shot glasses, we were always torn to grab the shot glass that is thin and tall, but we've come to find that the dad bod shot glasses are a lot more practical. There is no worry that the freezing cold tequila will come flying out and overflow your shot glass. This dad has enough room to fill all that tequila and more before you realize you're overflowing. These shot glasses can also double as a centerpiece on the top of your bar cart, as they are very appealing.

4. Aspen Martini Glass - $4.95 each. When glancing at our Instagram page, you can probably tell that we just can't get away from this martini glass. Every drink looks so inviting in this glass. The stem is thin but is sturdy (trust me), and the glass compliments any garnish you're using that night, or morning. We don't judge.

5. Felix Optic Fizz Glass - 9.95 each. The hardest drink to find a glass to pour into has to be a typical cocktail. I'm not talking a pomegranate martini or a lime margarita, I'm talking just some random cocktail that you made with a leftover Truly, a shot of rum and pineapple juice. Wow, that doesn't sound half that bad. What glass are you supposed to pour that concoction in? The Felix Optic Fizz Glass. I mean let's be real - this glass checks off all of our list, other than beer and wine. I have not yet splurged on a margarita glass, because this does the job at my home bar.

6. Miguel Double Old-Fashioned Glass - $5.95. When your dad comes over for dinner on Sunday night, he's wondering where he's going to pour his Scotch. This is your guy for that. However, sitting at 12 ounces, this might also be your secondary cocktail glass, margarita glass, and martini glass. I'm telling you - you don't need to spend thousands on glassware, you just have to make it work.

7. Easton Bar Tool Set - $79.75. This bar toolset is a must-have when enhancing your home bar. When we first started making our home bar, one of the things that we forgot was a bar spoon and we realized how important this convenient tool is. Of course, you need the shaker too. This shaker is especially desirable because it has a cap and a strainer. One too many times have I tried to use a shaker that uses a second shaker as a cap, and it's just not the same. Very rarely are we using muddlers, but hey, you might crave a mojito one day.

8. If you aren't a fan of any of the glasses above and already have a great cocktail shaker, the one thing that you need on this list is a citrus juicer. You can use a different glass, you can stir your cocktail with an ice cream spoon, but you cannot replace this citrus squeezer. How are you going to make a margarita? A limoncello martini? Guaranteed you will need fewer lemons, limes, and oranges when using this squeezer rather than using your hands.
